to Wolfgang Amann's website "Workshop for guitarmaking"
As you wander through the gallery you will get an insight into my work as a guitarmaker. Some of the pictures were taken at the different stages of building a guitar, while others show the instruments as they were built in my workshop over a period of past two years. These instruments are exclusively handmade, they are my own individual model and design. Some were made in a series of two or three, this makes them available for customers to try out or purchase exactly as they are shown here.
Models can of cource be made to your specifications, using a combination of materials and built to size, according to your liking.
I certainly enjoy making guitars from tried and testes types of wood, such as different kinds of rose-wood in combination with Spruce and Cedar. But, it is quite tempting to try out other kinds of wood that have a nice appearance and it is interesting to find out what kind of guitar is the result. Most of us know that it is the tension of the wood not the appearance that determines the sound of the instrument.
Still, this is something that as a guitarmaker you are tempted to try, and it was the starting point of us turning a piece of old Olive Wood into one classical and one Steel String Guitar.
Wood material differs in many ways and therefore must be treated differently. Each instrument you build varies, this does not mean however, that the character of the sound will necessarily change much. It is more likely that the instruments will have a personality all of their own.
This is a craft full of inspiration. It is from conversation with open minded colleagues, concerts of brilliant guitarists or even a town like the Spanish Granada with it's powerful atmosphere and it's excellent conditions for guitarmaking that you are inspired.
In my building repertoire you will find that, apart from the Classical Guitar and the Steel String Guitar, I also have a Mandoline which is my own design. The reason for this is my interest in playing these instruments. Being a guitarmaker I like to posess one of each instrument that I have built myself.
